Abstract
ABSTRACT Library catalogs are increasingly perceived by end users as boring and dull legacy systems. Compared to other search systems today, such as online book store catalogs, ebook platforms and Google Print, library catalogs are metadata impoverished. Commercial aggregators of metadata content, like Syndetic Solutions, enable libraries to bridge the metadata gap with competitors. Interoperability between library systems and heavily capitalized commercial search systems present additional Opportunities for bridging the gap.
