Abstract

The traditional terrestrial television business throughout the world is currently declining, including in Indonesia. The emerging visual and Internet technology disrupts the television business with new entertainment platforms and services, especially online entertainment applications or sites. Interactivity and variety of content are the main keys that attract viewers or users. This paper examines the future and trend of television business by delving deeper into the existence of ever-evolving information technology in new media. This study uses qualitative exploratory research methods in the form of literature reviews and focuses group discussions. The literature review and current television business become the reference for focus group discussion in exploring the future television business. This research aims to get another perspective of the new television industry, to provide an overview of the industry to terrestrial television operators, and to give ideas to the technopreneur to enter the media business. Multi-platform operations with the ICT-based new media structure are the keys to the development of television business going forward.
