Abstract

Magnetic recording media can take the form of tape, floppy disk, or hard (rigid) disk. The Signals recorded could be analog or digital. The principles of these recording methods are well described in the magnetic storage handbook and other reference books (Mee and Daniel, 1996). This chapter will focus on the recording media for hard disk drives, which have experienced the most significant development in recent years and represent the most technical challenges.
