I See J. T. Laird, The Shaping of 'Tess of the d'Urbervilles' (Oxford, I975). It is possible, as Michael Millgate has noted, that some additional minor authorial corrections entered the texts of Hardy novels after I926. These may, or may not, account for the small number of changes in accidentals found in the so-called Library and Greenwood editions of Tess, published during the years following the Second World War.
