Abstract

, 239 (1997)]. One of several attempts to give an at least qualitative interpretation requires a delayed electron generation via Auger decay of d-band holes [E. Knoesel, A. Hotzel, M. Wolf: Phys. Rev. B 57, 12812 (1998)]. We present experimental evidence from the analysis of line widths in high-resolution one-photon photoemission spectra, that indeed d-holes in Cu, Ag and Au exhibit systematically longer lifetimes than excited s,p-band electrons of the corresponding excitation energy.
