Abstract

The various isotopic species of methanol are responsible for more than 40% of all the known far infrared (FIR) laser lines [1]. More than 150 CH 3 OH laser lines have been assigned, due to both an easier interpretation of the coincidences between CO 2 pump lines and absorptions, and to the availability of massive systematic assignment work for the CH 3 OH spectrum[2]. The number of assigned FIR laser lines is much smaller for CD 3 OH, to which the present contribution is devoted. Our experimental apparatus consists, basically, of a waveguide CO 2 laser with a tunability of 300 MHz [3], and two FIR laser cavities. By means of this apparatus we had already observed 108 new CD 3 OH FIR laser lines [4].
