Abstract

Huge data for storage and transmission is an important problem to be solved in multi-view video application, such as interactive multi-view video. Up to now, many multi-view video coding methods have been proposed, in which different prediction structures are used in the directions of view and time. In this paper, by using color correction technique, a new multi-view video coding method is proposed. First, chrominance information is discarded for all frames except for intra-coded frames during coding in encoder. Then the luminance-only frames are colorized using chrominance information from reference frames in decoder. And global color information is transferred between adjacent frames. Finally, color consistency operation is performed to maintain consistent color appearance between views. Experimental results show that the proposed method can save up to 20%~30% bit rate with acceptable reconstruction quality.
