Abstract

AbstractFor the new integral equation proposed previously by the author for the discontinuity problem in a dielectric waveguide, the nature of the numerical solution based on the moment method (boundary element method) is studied in detail by applying the method to a bend of a dielectric slab waveguide with an arbitrary shape. The necessary discretization range for the desired results, the location of the virtual boundary and the effect of the convergence of the field on the results are studied in detail by comparison with rigorous solutions. Further, dielectric bends of various shapes for reducing the radiation loss are analyzed. It is shown that an optimum shape can be obtained by means of the new integral equation.
