Abstract

AbstractThe study focuses on new insights related to the seismic exposure and vulnerability of buildings in Romania. Information collected during the national census performed in 1992 and 2011 is employed for a thorough evaluation of the seismic exposure of buildings. Damage data complied after the Vrancea 1977 earthquake, as well as the evolution of the codes employed for the design of various buildings and structures are briefly discussed in order to better evaluate the seismic vulnerability. In addition, the evolution of the construction practice in Romania is discussed, as well. Finally, the EFEHR seismic exposure and vulnerability models for Romania are analyzed.KeywordsSeismic hazardDesign codesSeismic damageCensusRC structuresMasonry structures
