Abstract

New insights on the Intrinsic, Pro-Apoptotic Effect of IGFB3 in Breast Cancer.

Highlights

  • A commentary on Intrinsic, pro-apoptotic effects of Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 3 (IGFBP3) on breast cancer cells are reversible: involvement of protein kinase A (PKA), Rho, and ceramide by Perks CM, Burrows C, Holly JMP

  • Studies focusing on the pro-apoptotic and anti-proliferative actions of IGFBP3 have raised hope that these effects could exploited in cancer therapy, but overall conclusions have remained uncertain [3,4,5]

  • In esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, IGFBP3, which is induced by hypoxia, mediates the induction of CD44H cells by suppressing reactive oxygen species (ROS) [8]

Introduction

A commentary on Intrinsic, pro-apoptotic effects of IGFBP3 on breast cancer cells are reversible: involvement of PKA, Rho, and ceramide by Perks CM, Burrows C, Holly JMP. In complexes with ALS, IGFBP3 binds IGFs with high affinity and has a pivotal role in modulating IGFs biological effects by limiting their bioavailability. Studies focusing on the pro-apoptotic and anti-proliferative actions of IGFBP3 have raised hope that these effects could exploited in cancer therapy, but overall conclusions have remained uncertain [3,4,5].
