Abstract
The pore size distribution of the active pores of Millipore MF-VS and MF-VM microfiltration membranes, having nominal pore sizes of 250 Å and 500 Å, respectively, was investigated by a new evaluation method described earlier. The average values of the active pore sizes calculated from the pore size distributions obtained by this method were found to be systematically smaller than the nominal pore sizes indicated by the manufacturer. These differences are discussed in terms of the applicability and range of validity of the gas permeability method which is frequently used for evaluation of the average pore size of microfiltration membranes.
