Abstract

In late 2009, new guidelines for the management of human immunodeficiency virus infection were published by the European AIDS Clinical Society and the United States Department of Health and Human Services. A comparison of the European AIDS Clinical Society guidelines (presented in November at the European AIDS Conference) and the Department of Health and Human Services guidelines (published online in December at http://www.aidsinfo.nih.gov) is presented in this brief communication. Significant differences include criteria for initiation of therapy and preferred regimens for naive patients.
