Abstract

New charts are available for monitoring children's growth. They are known as the 1990 Nine Centile United Kingdom Charts and replace the Tanner-Whitehouse Charts, which were first published in 1966. The older charts are now obsolete. The data upon which they are based no longer valid as children's growth patterns have changed; babies nowadays gain weight faster during early life and may then experience some deceleration of growth after this initial spurt and, general, children are taller.
