Abstract

The recent evidence for new giant multipole resonances in nuclei is reviewed, particularly for a supposedly isocalar quadrupole resonance with an excitation energy of about 60 to 65/A 1 3 MeV, just below the well-known giant dipole resonance. In addition, brief, qualitative notes are given on the theoretical background to these and other giant resonance phenomena.
