Abstract
A new type of an electron beam source, based on a hollow anode discharge - hollow anode electron source is presented. The main characteristics of this compact cold cathode electron source are: high efficiency with low gas flow rates (without the need for differential pumping), good power efficiency, instant beam upon switch-on (no warm-up period) and long life-time.
