Abstract
This article deals with telecommunications networks, the reasons for changes, and the options telecommunications are facing today. The generation of network architecture is discussed, and two network evolution case studies are presented as well as the role of powerful applications in the future development of networks. Special emphasis is on software research and development supporting this new telecom world.
