Abstract

A new fabrication method for poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/liquid crystal (LC) composite film with controlled LC droplet size was presented by changing the dispersion state of hydroxyl groups in the PVA (block character). The LC droplet size could be controlled by the block character without changing the refractive index of the PVA matrix. The threshold voltage was strongly dependent on the LC droplet size though the anchoring strength was dependent on the block character.
