Abstract

Taking the future add-on armor of light armored platforms as the application background and research object, in view of armored combat vehicles’ weak survivability and low protection capability against RPGs and armor-piercing projectiles in urban warfare, and based on the research on protection mechanisms of traditional reactive and ceramic composite armor, a new type of explosive composite armor consisting of a composite shell, an explosive structural unit and a lightweight composite unit has been successfully developed. It provides effective protection against RPGs and armor-piercing projectiles at the same time. Compared with foreign data, its weight loss has reached 19%, making it a lightweight composite armor with low after-effect.
