Abstract

On April 1st, I was appointed Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Lexicography. The journal’s past Editors were, in turn: Robert Ilson, Tony Cowie, Paul Bogaards, and, most recently, Anne Dykstra, who stepped in at short notice after Paul’s sudden death in late 2013. My personal involvement with the journal has been since 2006, when Paul invited me to serve as Reviews Editor, which I have done ever since. In addition, in 2011 I became Associate Editor. In these two roles, I have had time and opportunity to learn what it takes to edit a successful lexicography journal, and I pledge to make every effort to continue the best tradition of IJL. I do want to introduce some changes, however. One change that is very important to authors, referees, and editors is the introduction of an online submission system. Optimizing it for IJL took me the better part of April (though it would have been much harder without Simone Larche’s continued expert advice), but I hope that the support that the new system offers will allow us to focus more on what really matters: ending up with highest-quality content. Please bear with me if the system still isn’t perfect: it does have some annoying technical limitations, but do let me know if you encounter something odd while using it (as either author or peer reviewer), and I’ll see if it can be fixed.
