Abstract

Having recognized the need for an advanced condition monitoring system which could perform intelligent process monitoring and root-cause analysis, BHP Billiton (Base Metals) in association with Barrick Gold and SGS Advanced Systems formed a consortium in 2004 in order to develop a system known as AHEAD (Asset Health Effectiveness and Diagnostics). This system has been designed to support the near real-time monitoring of key business and asset performance indicators (KPI's) and to automatically detect and diagnose deviations from desired performance on the equipment, control and process level of operations. This paper describes the implementation of a full-scale roll-out of the AHEAD toolkit on the Uranium Solvent Extraction plant at BHP Billiton's Olympic Dam operation.
