Abstract

The frequency range of HTS intrinsic Josephson plasma resonance covers from 100 GHz to several THz depending on the materials of the high- T c superconductors. Using THz Josephson plasma frequency, it is possible to develop new high-frequency devices such as THz generators and detectors. This paper surveys the static and dynamic quantum-size interference effect, Josephson plasma detection, ac intrinsic Josephson effect, and single Cooper-pair tunneling of sub-μm stack junctions. Comparing with existing competing technologies, extremely high performances of THz generators and single Cooper-pair memory shall be emphasized.
