Abstract

An extension of a beam propagation algorithm based on the method of lines is presented. Cylindrical coordinates are used to analyse taper structures. The results are compared with those using Cartesian coordinates. The numerical effort is reduced and better convergence is obtained. The field distribution and the power flow for a slab guide taper are presented.
