Abstract
SUMMARY This paper provides an overview of recent work on the Silesian geology of the central Pennines, northern England, and acts as an introduction to the thematic set of papers presented in this issue of the Proceedings. The thematic set includes a paper derived from the Yorkshire Geological Society field meeting to Bradford, held on 16 and 17 September 1995 ( Waters et al. this volume). The remaining papers stem from talks presented at the general meeting of the Yorkshire Geological Society, held at Huddersfield University on 7 October 1995.
