Abstract

Beam transport through tandem electrostatic accelerators is described with emphasis on frequently encountered transmission problems. New developments in inclined-field acceleration tubes and high-transmission beam optics are presented. A novel use of quadrapole lenses as dispersive elements is proposed as a possible charge selection mechanism for use in the high-voltage terminal. Matrix formulations are given for beam transport through inclined-field tubes and gas and foil beam strippers.
