Abstract
Public trust and confidence in charities is an essential ingredient to protect the health of the sector. An aspect of this relates to the role of regulation and of the regulator. In this article the reflections of a key insider—a former chief executive of the Charity Commission—are presented. It is suggested that while regulation is a necessary condition for a vibrant and growing charity sector, appropriate regulation requires a desire to be on the side of the angels.
