Abstract

The new design of composite gas/liquid storage vessels with a very thin metal liner is suggested. This design differentiates between the sealed gas/liquid function of the metal liner and the stress bearing function of the fiber reinforced outer shell. The essential weight advantage of this design is shown. The possibility of welding the parts of the metal liner during manufacturing is emphasized as an additional advantage of the new design. An appropriate design solution for the cryogenic pressure tank is discussed.
