Abstract

The 3-D simulation of the traveling wave tube with attention to the vital role of the slow wave structure in the improvement of the lamp efficiency is done. The simulation shows that in the half ring helix with supporting rods (HRH-SRs), the RF signal phase velocity and the exchange of energy are improved than HRH. The HRH-SR with 1/16 length of HRH is introduced in the S-band. The HRH-SR structure is analyzed with the aid of the CST software for the cold and hot tests in the 2-4-GHz bandwidth. One of the interesting results is the linear output in the special frequency range, which have the industrial and technological importance. The other important result is that the proper impedance matching between the input and output is obtained in the HRH-SR structure in comparison with HRH.
