Abstract
Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), the school‐based substance use prevention program delivered by police officers, has quietly changed into a completely different curriculum. Instead of spending 45 minutes lecturing students about drugs — which has proven to be counterproductive, resulting in increasing, rather than decreasing, drug use — the police officers are now showing them videos of various situations and encouraging the students to break out into small groups to talk about how they would respond.
