Abstract

No general method has yet been developed for systematically selecting an apprepriate continuous sampling plan of the desired type from among the infinitely many plans of this type possessing the desired AOQL. A second important problem is that the plan must now be selected without adequate available information regarding the performance of the plan when the process quality deteriorates from an acceptable level to an unacceptable level. This paper attempts to solve both problems at once by proposing new measures o f effectiveness of continuous sampling plans in adjusting to a process that has gone out of control; after the type of continuous sampling plan and the AOQL value have been selected, these new measures of effectiveness provide criteria for selecting a specific plan.
