Abstract

Abstract This paper presents two new control configurations for adjustable speed Dc drives with elastic coupling. The first proposed control scheme is a modification of the rigid system PI controller with an added control tenn proportional to the differential speed. The second developed scheme is the unit vector sliding mode control which is known to be robust, insensitive to parameter variations and suitable for electric drive for its smooth manipulation. Simulation results for a real dual kiln drive (a typical drive with flexible coupling) are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controllers.
