Abstract

A new composite membrane was fabricated from anion exchange polymer via. chloromethylation and quaternization, quaternizedpoly (styrene ethylene butylene poly styrene) and nano filler namely zirconia [QPSEBS/ZrO2] by solution casting technique. The synthesized membranes were characterized by laboratory and physicochemical studies. The interaction between the quaternized polymer and the filler concentration was confirmed by FTIR. The thermal stability and surface morphology of the composite membranes were analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) respectively. The crystallinity of the sample was investigated through XRD pattern. The synthesized composite membranes exhibit antibacterial activities towards the Gram-positive bacteriaeandGram-negative bacteria, determined by agar diffusion method with tetracycline as a reference.
