Abstract

The nomenclatural consequences of uniting Jussiaea L. with Ludwigia L. (Onagraceae) have not yet been fully realized, despite the efforts of Hara (Journ. Jap. Bot. 28: 289-294 (1953)). In my opinion it is correct to combine these genera, as has been done by several recent authors, especially cogent reasons having been given by Brenan (Kew Bull. 8: 163-172 (1953). Although I am at present engaged in a monographic study of the Old World species of this combined genus, it is desirable to make the following new combinations available at the present time, due to the importance of the species involved, especially the one that has long been known as Jussiaea suffruticosa L. and more recently as Ludwigia pubescens (L.) Hara. Only the essential synonymy is given here.
