Abstract
This paper makes some new combinations in the genera Hirtella and Dactyladenia that are needed for a world monograph of Chrysobalanaceae for Species Plantarum (Prance & Sothers, in press). F. White (1976) treated Hirtella thouarsiana Baill. ex Laness. as a synonym of H. zanzibarica Oliv. However, the Madagascan material is quite distinct in inflorescence and flower characters. The 4 subspecies described from Madagascar by White under H. zanzibarica are here transferred to H. thouarsiana. All are known from very little material, but until more collections become available they are maintained here. Hirtella megacarpa R. A. Graham is maintained as a subspecies of H. zanzibarica.
