Abstract

Systems of three or four identical air-cored, circular coils for producing an extended uniform magnetic field are described. On an initial assumption that the coil cross-sections are very small, the separations of these coaxial coils and the currents in them are first given and the paper then goes on to take into account the finite cross-section of real coils. The paper concludes with a discussion of the most practical methods of setting up the coil systems.
