Abstract

Material of a large number of species belonging to the Onagraceae has been collected since I926 for morphological and cytological study, the immediate aim being to investigate certain morphological characteristics and the ultimate purpose to provide facts additional to the ordinary taxonomical details for a phylogenetic scheme for the family, as well as for the individual genera. Since it may be some time before detailed studies on this material can be published, certain observations in regard to the numbers of chromosomes, and on certain variations therein, in hitherto unreported species, may be useful to other workers on the family.
