Abstract

Taking weld testing as an example, we would like to report on an ultrasonic notebook being used in field conditions for the first time. The new test instrument is a fully functional ultrasonic flaw detector in a rugged notebook-type PC. Besides the easy operation according to the Windows standard, the user-friendly functions for flaw location and evaluation, it's the integrated database for test jobs and test results that arouses special interest. It enables us to achieve more efficient test sequences and a clear improvement in the complete test documentation. This allows us to stand up to the increased cost pressure and, at the same time, to satisfy the growing quality demands on the nondestructive testing of materials. We expect in addition that in this way the requirements with regard to accrediting and certification of our quality management system are met more precisely and even more economically.
