Abstract
The paper presents new challenges in teaching of Theory of Mechanisms and Machines (TMM) discipline through the creation of motile 3D models. TMM started to be a worldwide educational discipline in 19th century at engineering universities and technical schools. But more than a century before that one of the possible ways of teaching and practical training for young engineers was connected with the use of mechanisms models. Modern technologies including digital photography, 3D modeling, CAD software, etc. brought a great input to the education process. Thus, the models from the Russian Mechanisms Collection of Bauman University got a new life by involving the students in research process through 3D reconstruction, 3D registration and 3D visualization.
