Abstract

We prepared Sn particles dispersed carbons by pyrolysis of pitch containing various organotin compounds, i.e. tetra- n-butyltin, poly(di- n-butyl(maleate)tin, tetrakis(diethylamino)tin, di- n-butyltin sulfide, poly(di- n-butyltin) and poly(di- n-butyltinoxide), and investigated the characteristics of the carbons and Li ions discharge and charge capacities. The crystallinity of the carbons decreased and Sn crystals were formed by the addition of organotin compounds into pitch. In the case of tetrakis(di-ethylamino)tin, Sn fine particles were uniformly dispersed in carbon matrix. Li ion discharge and charge capacities increased by the addition of organotin compounds. The capacities of the carbons obtained from pitch containing tetrakis(diethylamino)tin or di- n-butyltinsulfide are about two times greater than that of the carbon obtained from pitch without organotin compound.
