Abstract

Since 1982, the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (CAG) has provided support for an annual Visiting Research Professorship. The award allows a member, who is an outstanding researcher, to visit six or more centres (largely academic institutions) across the country. The CAG is pleased to be able to provide the membership with an additional benefit – the CAG Visiting Clinical Professorship. The CAG Visiting Clinical Professorship will be offered annually, starting in 2012, to a member of CAG who is a proven educator and an outstanding clinician with interest in clinical research. The CAG Visiting Clinical Professorship is a benefit to CAG members in community practice and, as such, sites visited will be either of the following: Presentations and participation at a meeting DESIGNED to be appropriate for a target audience that includes community gastroenterologists. OR A location that does not have an academic gastroenterology training program but has at least four CAG members who are supportive of the visit and expecting to participate (please see local funding requirements). The local organizing committee can discuss with the Visiting Clinical Professor the content and format of the educational activities they desire. The Visiting Clinical Professor would be available, depending on their area of expertise, to for example, present education talks, engage in small group case-based discussions, demonstrate new endoscopic techniques or assist in quality assurance endeavors in the region. He or she may be available for ward rounds for education of medical students, internal medicine, and family practice residents and gastroenterology nurses. Nominations for this award can be made by any member of the CAG. The most convenient means to nominate a candidate is to use the Nomination Form found on the CAG website at www.cag-acg.org/awards. A curriculum vitae must be concurrently forwarded to the CAG National Office, preferably in electronic format. Nominations must be received no later than January 31, 2012. CAG Education Affairs will review the nominations and make the final decision regarding the recipient. The CAG Visiting Clinical Professor will be asked to visit at least six sites across the country in the period between July 1 and June 30.
