Abstract

15 Campylopus species are reported for the first time from Bolivia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Venezuela. In the course of several revisions of herbarium material from Central and South America from Duke University (DUKE), the Farlow Herbarium (FH), the Field Museum (F), the University of Graz (GZU) the Missouri Botanical Garden (Mo), and occasional identifications from specimens sent by M. R. Crosby and D. Griffin, III, some remarkable new additions to the moss flora of some countries have been found. Campylopus arctocarpus (Hornsch.) Mitt. PANAMA. Vicinity of Cerro Jefe, cloud forest, terrestrial, 910 m, Lewis & Dressler 7604, 7605 (Mo). A species widely distributed through Central and northern South America but not recorded before from Panama. The plants of these specimens bear small microphyllous branches, which are rarely observed in this species. Campylopus benedictii Herz. COSTA RICA. San Jose along W side of Interamerican Highway, 17 km SE of El Empalme, epiphytic on vertical tree trunk in forest, Crosby 10885 (Mo).
