Abstract

Intraocular pressure is one of the most important quantities measured in ophthalmic diagnosis. This is an important parameter, inter alia, in diagnosis of glaucoma and other ophthalmic diseases. With the use of the Corvis tonometer, video sequences of 140 images of corneal deformation were recorded for 10 patients. The algorithm proposed in the paper performs fully automatic image analysis providing the following results: (1) full automatic position, correction and automatic measurement of applanation, (2) better determination of the biomechanical viscoelastic properties of the cornea of the eye and (3) analysis of a single image in less than 200 ms. The described methodology enables automatic and reproducible measurements of the mechanical properties of the cornea, including the applanation curve.
