Abstract
A new NASA astronomy satellite designed to probe the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) band is scheduled to be launched from the space shuttle in 1988. Called the Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer (EUVE), the satellite's initial objective is to make the first all‐sky map in the EUV band of the electromagnetic spectrum, a band between ultraviolet and X ray light.EUVE, to be stationed in orbit at an altitude of about 550 km, will carry four 40‐cm ultraviolet telescopes to be used to conduct the survey and also a spectrometer to carry out detailed observations of new EUV sources and stars.
