New arylterpenoid compounds with juvenile hormone activity against mosquitoes.

Abstract

AI3-36206 [2-methoxy-9-(p-isopropylphenyl)-2,6-dimethylnonane] and AI3-36093 [2-ethoxy-9-(p-isopropylphenyl)2,6-dimethylnonane] are juvenile hormone mimics with high activity against mosquitoes in the laboratory. Hand applications of AI3-36206-4E show that it has the potential of controlling populations of Aedes nigromaculis (Ludlow) and A. melanimon Dyar at rates as low as 0.025 lb AI/acre; aircraft trials with the same formulations gave encouraging results at rates of 0.03 and 0.05 lb AI/acre. No deleterious effects on nontarget organisms present were observed in any of the field tests.
