Abstract
A new approach for on-line/post-process inspection/feedback control systems using piecewise linear approximation in assuring dimensional accuracy of geometrical parts has been developed. Current automated inspection and measurement systems have not been very successful in on-line/post-process inspection/feedback control because of the problems of data volume, processing time and measurement accuracy. In contrast to previous work, the system described in this paper uses a partial data elimination operator in which the vertices of two-dimensional shapes of industrial parts are quickly located and identified in a general manner. The system organizes the dimensional information of tested parts obtained from the presented operator to form a template code. A close analysis of the template code is conducted by a split/merge matching process that uses a previously formed reference code in comparison with the extracted code. Therefore, the feedback compensating signals are generated automatically to achieve 100% g...
