Abstract
One of the world's most wide-ranging railways never leaves the station, never touches steel wheel to track, yet makes countless stops and starts each day. This "ghost train" is really two automated 150-car, brake system test racks which together can form a gigantic 300-car freight train. Combined with three full-scale brake shoe dynamometers, the facility comprises one of the world's largest and most sophisticated railway research, development, and test facilities.
