Abstract

A new application of third sound for the study of wave propagation in quasiperiodic systems has been developed. The advantages of the present method are: 1) Small attenuation of third sound and well-controlled fabrication of scatterers ensure the long phase-coherence length. 2) One- and two-dimensional quasiperiodic lattices can be studied. Transmission spectrum of third sound in the Penrose lattice (two-dimensional quasiperiodic lattice) has been obtained for the first time.
