Abstract

AbstractPoly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) has been anionically synthesized at high temperature and in apolar media, using diphenylhexyllithium (DPHLi) as initiator and a novel σ‐μ chelating ligand to curb the side reactions. It has been indeed found that lithium 2‐(dimethylamino‐)ethoxide is a very efficient σ‐μ ligand that prevents the anionic polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) from being disrupted by significant secondary termination reactions. Ligand/initiator molar ratio, solvent polarity, temperature, monomer and active center concentrations are proved to be key parameters in the control of the polymerization process.
