Abstract

Neutron powder diffraction and magnetic measurements have been carried out on RNi x Sn 2 (R=Tb, Dy, Ho) compounds. These compounds crystallize in the orthorhombic CeNiSi 2-type structure (space group Cmcm) and are antiferromagnets with Néel temperatures equal to 17.4 K for Tb, 8 K for Dy and 6.6 K for Ho. The neutron–diffraction data indicate the presence of magnetic ordering described by the propagation vector k=(0,0,12) for Tb, k=( 13 ̃ ,0, 13 ̃ ) for Dy, and k=(12,12,0) for Ho.
