Abstract

Neutron thresholds resulting from proton bombardment of 9Be, 10B and 11B have been investigated by the use of the counter ratio method, in the range of proton energies from 3 to 5.5 MeV. The ground state threshold energy for the 10B(p, n) 10C reaction was found to be (4.835±0.025) MeV, corresponding to a mass excess for 10C of (18.620±0.025) MeV. An expected low lying excited state threshold for the 9Be(p, n) 9 reaction at about 3.8 MeV was not found, and the first excited state threshold for the 11B(p, n) 11C reaction was not found up to 5.2 MeV bombarding energy.
