Evolution of Radio Pulsar Magnetic Fields Ruderman, R. Abstract The effects of crust neutron superfluid vortex line pinning on the crusts of canonical radio pulsars are discussed and used to model the evolution of the magnetic fields of such pulsars. Emphasis is given to how the resulting stresses cause the motion of crustal plates and the magnetic field embedded in them. The cracking, glitches, and gamma-ray bursts that result from neutron star crusts being stressed beyond their elastic yield strengths are examined.
